In design and typography, a widow is that lonely word or short line hanging at the end of a paragraph, left behind like it didn’t get the memo to join the party. It’s the design equivalent of a bad breakup—awkward and visually jarring. No designer wants that tragic look in their layout, so we kick those widows to the curb for a more polished, cohesive vibe. Because nobody likes a straggler ruining the aesthetic.
